I have a 2000 Ford Ranger and recently had the infamous “check engine” light come on. The code came back with P0133 “BBHO2S11 slow response heated o2 sensor …”.
I replaced the o2 sensor, disconected the negative battery cable to reset the CEL, and after about 25 miles of driving the “check engine” light is back on.
What’s the trick to this?
Your help is appreciated,

There’s two O2 sensors in your vehicle. Did you replace the right one?
Tester
Tester,
The diagnostic code pointed to the bank 1 senor 1 location. Via diagram I determined that one to be low on the manifold (driver side).

That DTC P0133 is for “slow response” from the oxygen sensor in the front of the catalytic converter on the side that #1 cylinder exhausts. I’ll assume the engine is a six cylinder.
Often, a problem in the catalytic converters, or oxygen sensors, is caused by something wrong in the engine…You know, stuff flows downhill.
Several things can poison an oxygen sensor: burnt motor oil; antifreeze; silicone; excessive fuel. Your problem may be one of these.
Make sure that you have power to the heater wire. I had an intermittent open circuit to an oxygen sensor once. Drove me crazy for weeks and cost me an unnecessary oxygen sensor before I found it.
