Cars and Car Songs... It's been 57 years!

The ink was black, the paper was pink. The title and the registration were identical on the front, but the pink slip had the transfer information that you filled out on the back.

It became a problem after this song because you could sign over the pink slip to someone else, either by sale or loss of a race, but the new owner didn’t always fill in their info. The new owner could continue to race the car and if he lost, just hand over the signed pink slip. Several transactions could occur but if one of the new owners caused an accident, he could just walk away and the liability would revert to the owner on record at the DMV.

Being young enough to be nostalgic for those high performance hot rods cars but old enough to understand the risk I’m wondering why we haven’t made some changes?

Drag strips are dying out because of lack of income/insurance issues and road courses are becoming the domain of the rich and famous but we’re still funding skater parks where someone can crack their skull.

Assuming that the lawyers can work something out to limit public liability, wouldn’t make sense to fund the public strips/tracks?
Participant funding, spectator funding, participant pleasure and public safety, seems like a no brainer
