Carbon Fiber Parts/Accidents

Along with all the fumes from the engine.

Is that humor? Engines arenā€™t allowed to leak hydrocarbon fumes. Also, there is a barrier between the engine and cowl: bulkhead or firewall.

Vehicles with front splitters and ground affects added on make setting the lift for service a challenge. I wish those vehicle owners would perform their own maintenance.

Does that carbon fiber splitter really affect the air conditioning?

This is actually the exact car and lip in question

Have you not noticed there is a seal either on the hood or on the cowl to prevent this?

The air is directed out the bottom of the engine compartment not into the air that finds its way into the cabin.

I really doubt that there is any appreciable down force at highway speeds. Just my 2 pennys worth.

BTW, the OP added an aftermarket lip. I suspect the stock splitter provided more than adequate downforce.

Yes that :point_up_2:, I think most everyone seems to have forgotten that part of thisā€¦

There are no other vents in the hood. I see those seals in all my vehicles any yet leaves and pine needles manage to get under them so a few nano sized particles should have no trouble getting by.

These are much smaller than fiberglass particles. They probably would not cause any issues on skin. In large enough quantities they would irritate eyes but in your case, the exposure is so low that your tears will wash them away.

Your lungs are more enclosed and the little air sacs can trap the particles, but unlike asbestos which is the ideal size to get lodged in place and remain there, the carbon fibers will eventually escape. They are only a problem for long term continuous exposure. But again, your quantity of fibers will be very low.

Painting the scraped edges would solve this, as others have mentioned.

Well we all have some ā€œquirksā€ but weā€™ve also established that the added Lip provides no real benefit, that it can be a PITA when servicing the vehicle and that the airflows are directed away from the fresh air intake so the question is whether the drawbacks of the mod outways the benefits?

Donā€™t want to get all New Age but the simple question is does the aftermarket Lip make you feel overall happier or worse?

Iā€™m having a hard time believing anyone is actually entertaining this idea, especially some of the more reasoned people on this board.

Consider the statistical possibilities- exactly how many of those particles do you think might be liberated from the damaged area and for how long? How many of those do you think can make their way inside the cabin given the circuitous path and mitigations put in place to limit anything from the engine compartment- even gases! from making their way into the cabin while moving.

Now consider the air volume in the cabin and the potential to inhale even one fiber. Then, it has to make it past the nasal defenses- mucous membranes, designed to trap such things and into a lung. (youā€™re not a mouth breather are you OP  ) The odds of even one fiber under those conditions is astronomical. How many fibers do you think it would take to initiate a respiratory reaction? Gimme a break.

The possibility of a mold or mildew growth in the A/C ducting is orders of magnitude more likely a cause than this far flung ideaā€¦

I doubt thereā€™s a problem, but a coat of paint is a simple way to guarantee there isnā€™t one. And calms the worries.

To be honest, these are the types of responses that I am looking for. this helps a ton because it makes me realize how ridiculous my worries are. So i do appreciate the note.

Oh no! Must use Duct tape!

I have some past experience with this kind of thing. A girlfriend of mine started feeling the same way about various things and some relatives thought they were helping by entertaining ways to alleviate the concerns but at the same time they were reinforcing those fears. So the situation escalated for her and got really bad at one point. So I do understand the anxiety and sincerely glad if I helped to redirect your concerns to some degree. I would never call them ridiculous fears as I know how real they can be to the person that has them. What helped her was a bit of tough love and to put things into context so the fears would be tamped down by scientific reasoning over ā€œtheories of what could happenā€.

Stop bringing facts and logic in to confuse things. Remember the car talk motto ā€œunencumbered by the thought processā€ :joy:
