My car starts fine in the morning or after sitting for a few hours. The car won’t start again if it has been recently been driven. The car runs fine and has been checked out by a mechanic. The mechanic can’t find any problems.
The next time it won’t start immediately, turn the key to the ON position (wait a couple of seconds) and then turn the key to OFF.
Repeat a couple of times. If it now starts, the problem may be a faulty fuel pressure regulator.
Another fault may be a heat soaked starter.
Identify the vehicle please, with engine size and mileage.
Coes the starter crank the engine over? Does the starter just crank but the engine will not catch and run? Does the engine hit but not get the a running state? Does this happen every time the engine is restarted warm? How long of ‘sitting’ does it take till a restart is possible?

Hi. I have a 1964 Austin Healey Sprite so it has points and no fuel injector. After a 15 minute drive the car stalls and I can’t start until it cools down. I changed the fuel filter, cleaned the carbs, replaced the coil and checked the spark plug wires, each comes in at about 7k ohms. The car cranks well but no doesn’t want to start. I got stranded yesterday and almost got heat stroke pushing it. HELP PLEASE.
Have you considered a failing condenser; the one that goes with the contact points? Those can cause intermittent stalling and are quite often overlooked.
Another guess might be vapor lock. This problem seems to be worse with unleaded gas than in the old days of leaded gasoline.
Have you considered the flooding question? Is it cooled enough that the choke is closed when it shouldn’t be? Are you old enough to know how to start a flooded car?
