Car will intermittently shake when stopped after driving (when put in park)

Hey everone!

We have an issue with our 2015 MB c200d-

It always starts OK and it drives well but we have an issue with intermittent shaking after being driven for a while. It doesn’t always happen and we can have a full good week with no issues, but we will sometimes experience shaking when we come to a complete stop and put it in PARK. We can sit there with the brake down after a good ride with no shaking at any point, but as soon as we put it in park it could start shaking. My best guess is that it’s misfiring, but what do I know honestly

  • It has never happened while the engine was cold!
  • We have seen smoke only once out of many, my best guess is it was white as it was dark out
  • I’ve checked the oil and coolant, they both look just fine… No milky oil and coolant looks and smells fine (I checked these as I’m aware a blown head gasket can cause a leak, right).
  • Fuel economy seems to be just normal(satisfying), but we recently had a full service on the adblue system + new much needed tires, so fuel economy is hard to say if it has changed recently, I would say it hasn’t.

So it seems to me it only happens at operating temperature and when the RPM drops when putting it in PARK. We HAVE experienced it shaking/misfiring under a whole short trip after coming home from work, sitting shortly in PARK and continuing the drive to a store nearby.

Any ideas? If this was a leak due to a head blown gasket, wouldn’t it rather happen when the engine was cold rather than when it’s running hot? Maybe a faulty fuel injector?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated, thank you! :raised_hands:

Is the check engine light on?

I’d guess a faulty fuel injector or a failing high pressure pump.

No check engine light!

Thank you, appreciate your feedback

Hopefully, @db4690 will chime in. He is a former MB technician, and he may be able to provide some specifics.

I got $10.00 on someone saying it might be a vacuum booster or ignition wires breaking down…

Yeah it being a MB & D, I am leaving this one up to Mr DB4690… But Mustangman may have already gotten close or point on, that would have been my guess anyway…

Sorry you having this difficulty. I’m just a knucklehead know nothing diy’er, so you’d be best advised (according to some here) to ignore what I say. Also, I have no MB or diesel experience,
Zip. If you want this fixed properly your best bet is to take your car to an MB specialist or a dealership. Bring your wallet! But all that doesn’t stop me from making a guess on a few things to check.

  • Compression
  • EGR function
  • DPF

Has there been any work done, esp just prior to noticing this symptom? Glow plugs?

George i implore you… please stop the self deprecating speech, it’s getting old.

I’m agreeing with negative poster’s here is all. If those posters will all agree to discontinue their negative postings, I’ll be happy to discontinue the truthful, but self deprecating, speech.

You are demeaning yourself in more than one way. That sort of behavior is childish IMO. If you don’t like other people’s comments, reply in an adult manner. Your self depreciating speech is not an adult response given the number of times you use it. It appears passive-aggressive to me.

Like I say above, it’s easy to stop it. @db4690? @davesmopar?

You beat me to it, JT!
IMO, that recent ongoing self-deprecation is actually an exercise in passive aggression.

@db4690? @davesmopar … you can put a stop to it. Simply agree here to discontinue your negative postings, and conform to the reasoned argument approach as clearly outlined in the forum’s rules.

I haven’t busted your chops in several days now . . . but I’m also in agreement with the others, as to the way you’re conducting yourself lately. It’s getting tedious and I feel you’re just itching to pick a fight, imo

and I have nothing to add to this particular discussion because I’ve been gone from the Benz dealer for a long time now and not many diesel models showed up, anyways

BTW: The adult way to say something would be "as a DIYer, I would______________

And as I have already said multiple times, I am done playing these Childish games, I have my grandkids to do that with thank you very much…

As Tyrus likes to say, Nuff said!

George- Never try to mudwrestle with a pig. It wastes your time, and the pig enjoys it!

Dave… I never pictured you as a grandfather. I pictured you as 20s or 30s.

Like they say, “It takes two to tangle.”

I suggest folks drop it and move on.

Apparently the forum rules which state to use a “reasoned argument” approach, just doesn’t work here. Sigh.

My son is 36… lol
