I have a 2005 VW Jetta. Recently the car trunk will not open with either the remote control or the switch inside the car. The light comes on on the dashboard indicating that the trunk is open when it is not. Eventually it will open as I am flying down the road and I have to stop and close it. Any thoughts on what’s going on? Do I need to take it to the dealer or is this something I can fix myself? Thanks a bunch!
When it doesn’t open, do you try to pull it up, or do you assume it isn’t open? The gaskets might be stuck to each other well enough that it takes a little jostling to open it. The latch might need a little lube. Jostling would make it open under those circumstances, too.
Hi - I do always try to open the trunk physically. I’ll try lubing the latch. Thanks for your response.
You might also try waxing the seals on the trunk lid.
