Ok yall i dont know what the name of this part’ but i replaced this. I started to buy a new ignition it was 133.00 ’ but instead i went to the junkyard and got an ignition and whatever this other thing is for 10.00 , so i put the other thig on first and used the old ignition and it worked, the key turns over as it should without shutting right back off. I won, and im not a mechanic
It’s called an ignition switch…
By “ignition” I expect you mean the ignition control module. Your decision to first try replacing the ignition switch was a good idea, b/c a faulty ignition switch will prevent a good ignition control module from working.
BTW, the oem ignition control module seems to go for closer to $350 rather than $133 from what I see Your $133 version may have been used or an aftermarket part. I’m seeing a used AC Delco ignition module without coil for $600 on RockAuto, pretty pricey part. The same site lists a few aftermarket versions, from $100 to $180.
Overall you did a great diy’er job imo. The only problem you may run into eventually is the replacement ignition switch, being used, may start showing some problems in the future. If that happens, you know what to do.
Thank you for your feed back, yes looking at those prices you said ,I must say I came
If it is any consolation, I’ve never had to replace a key switch in over 60 years. I did replace one switch mounted on the steering column but still unclear if that was faulty. You are probably ok for another ten years unless you hang a bunch of keys on it.
