My car was making a knocking sound an when i drove it it sounded like it was changing gears its auto then just stoped now it wont start
We’re going to need a bit more info before anyone can venture a guess that will be helpful. Please fill in the blanks for us…

Model?
Model year?
When you checked the oil, what did you observe?
How long (time and or distance) was it making a knocking sound before the engine stopped?
Do the lights and radio still work?
When you say “won’t start”, does the starter turn the engine over, or is everything seemingly dead?

But if your car was making a true knocking noise and you kept driving it, then it just stopped and now you just get a hard click trying to start it, but it doesn’t start… Then sadly it sounds like you drove it until the engine locked up… I really hope I’m wrong but it doesn’t sound good…

The first thing to check is if the oil level is correct. Is it?
