Car needs new EGR valve right after major tune up? coincidence?

I have a 1996 Toyota Camry LE with almost 140,000. I took the car in for a major tune up, and then the afternoon after I picked it up the engine light went on. I went to my car guys this morning and they scanned the car and said I need a new EGR valve. Is it a complete coincidence that this happened right after the tune up? I trust my car guys, just want a second opinion. Also, how important is this to fix? Thanks!

Have them check wiring and/or vacuum hose to the valve. Something could have been disturbed.
