Car names for fun

Fred Flintsone: Plymouth Rock
Barney Rubble: Rock Hudson

A rock musician who drives a really terrible car: Uriah Heap.

How about a furrier with a (Hillman) Minx or a tanning salon owner with a Sunbeam?

Making up names is good too. A chef could drive a Hyundai Cilantro instead of an Elantra.

James Garner was the original Maverick. And since he actually was a car racer when he wasn’t doing movies or TV shows and all his own driving stunts because he was a better driver then Hollywood stunt men, the honor should go to him.

Actually beat-out Steve McQueen for a few movie roles featuring racing. Of course, Garner was, likely, much easier to deal with than McQueen

They were good friends. Only movie I remember both of them staring in was “The Great Escape”. Steve McQueen did his own Motor Cycle stunts. In fact he did the stunts for the character he was playing and the Nazi’s who were chasing him because no one could do it as well.

It was a good flick, and McQueen’s motorcycle riding helped to make it more exciting, but–like so many Hollywood productions–it was highly fictionalized.

In real life, the Great Escape was done exclusively by Brits and Canadians. There were no American GIs in the camp that was portrayed in the film.

Those WW-II movies where the Nazi Officers spoke with British accents

There were a lot of Germans living in Britain before the war. Then Hitler called them back to the Father Land
so if a German spoke English it was very likely they’d have a British accent.

They may have been friends, but McQueen had a reputation as a difficult actor
Talented, but difficult.

I can not tell you how many times I’ve watched that movie. I remember watching it on the Big Screen. I’ve seen in on TV many times. I eventually bought on Blue Ray from Amazon a few years ago. I only own about 30 movies.

Also, in order for him to read a script and decide whether he would accept a role, he required an up-front payment of $1 million.

Yes, but
There was only one James Mason and Hollywood always considered James Mason to be the ideal actor for a Nazi Officer role.

My wife’s relatives in Germany have a UK accent, too. They learned English form the English, not Americans.
