Ask friends, family, or a neighbor for a recommendation in the area. My neighbor recommended his mechanic when we moved into the neighborhood. I’ve been going to him for 18 years now. He probably isn’t the cheapest mechanic, but quality work and parts cost less in the long run.

What city do you live in? Problem is that someone might go to a mechanic and have a good experience, and as soon as I recommend them to someone else, they’ll go and feel like they’ve been overcharged. Talking to friends, getting references is about the best you can hope for. I looked at the shops recommended for my zip code, and I wouldn’t take my car to them if they were the last place on earth… so…???
As Bennie said, ask your friends, your family, and your coworkers who they use and how they like them. There should be one name that bacomes obvious.
