Car is completely dead

So my bf owns a 2000 Honda Accord coupe. The car will not start up at all,had some dude look at it and he had taken the big wire off somewhere, that’s connected to the starter, put it with the negative battery wire and jump started the car. It worked. The next day I went out toto see if the car will start, nothing. Could it be the alternator that’s bad? I’ve tried to charge up the both batteries to the car and I still can’t figure it out. Don’t have the money to take it to a shop and my bf is in jail so he can’t look over the car himself. Ive tried to figure it out myself but I’m not sure where he got the big wire from.

That description was too vague to say anything for sure. But if “some dude” bypassed the main power cables with jumper cables (which is what it sounds like), then you have a problem with those main power cables. What did “some dude” say about that? Do you know anyone that you trust who knows anything at all about cars? Or even about electricity?

IMHO, you need a different bf.

He said it was the alternator and battery. My bf usually fixes the car, I sometimes help, but since he’s not around, I don’t know anyone else. It was my roommate who called that dude to come look at the car, I should of been watching but really wasn’t. He gauged up the negative top post battery. He was more interested in me then the car but I know a little abit about it

BF is gone. Why don’t YOU buy your OWN car?

Enough with the relationship advice.

If the car started without the help of another battery , it’s not the battery or the alternator. It could be the connections, the ignition switch, the neutral safety switch, or some other connection.

Um I have not cheated and will not do so. I’m an part time student, studying criminal justice. I dont work cant afford a car, I get refunds every 8 weeks. Anyways you do not know why he’s in jail, you don’t know the situation anyways you might be right it could be something else even when I’ve driven it, it would die when I’m stopped

Welcome to the forum, and sorry to hear you are having life and car problems, it just adds to the stress you are under, my daughter also took criminal justice… You are correct we don’t know your situation and other than affecting your budget, has no barren on this tread and we should respect that…

That being said, we need more details in order to help, is there a way you can take some pictures of the battery and the loose wire and stuff the dude messed with??

Echoing comment above. Suggest for your safety to not try to fix this yourself. Public transport until you’ve saved enough $$$ to hire a pro mechanic.

For more ideas you could do further internet research, Google, u-tube, this forum’s search feature, etc. Best of luck. .

Yeah I can do that I’m not at home right now but I’ll take some pics then

I’m laughing so hard on this thread. You guys crack me up all the time!

I can’t count the amount of times a girl says her bf is in jail.

This is a car forum, so let me stay on topic before I get spanked.

I think she could be right about the alternator, or possibly the battery died.

I haven’t laughed so much in a long time!

I think the community did the right thing by offering advice on how to fix **things **

See, the questioner came to a car forum to present her issues, and as you know it, car enthusiasts and mechanics strive to fix **things **, and that’s what I’m seeing here :joy::joy::joy:, even if it pertains to romance hiccups

An entire Best of Car Talk podcast was recently devoted to relationship advice.

I don’t see a battery. I do see a cable with no clamp

The battery has been removed

OK, not sure what the big gauge wire (unknown battery cable) with no end by the radiator cap goes to, but the other battery cable (with a terminal end) is laying over the rad hose by the exhaust manifold…
1st you need to follow the cable with no end on it to see where it goes and take a picture of it, it might be the main starter cable and it needs to be connected to one of the other (positive +) battery cables, probably the longer cable, but (2nd & 3rd) you also need to know where the other 2 cables end (with pictures)…

Good luck…

Is it being charged up??

What’s with the cable that has no terminal on the end (the one near the radiator cap)? We need some backstory on that.

I believe it’s connected to the starter and was told that the wire goes to the positive side.
