The other day I got into my car and it started fine. After driving about a block it cut out. All the dash lights come on but it makes a funny sound when turned over and doesn’t start. I tried jumping it but it was no different

1994 - 214,000 miles. No related maintenance history that I know of: bought it off a friend, always been a reliable car, never gives trouble. In fact good idea, I’m going to call him up and ask him! The sound is like a screeching, strained sound, something like the sound when you turn the ignition on too much or leave it on for a second after the car starts
