Car battery tests fine, but needs jumped

,

I’ve ran into a bit of an odd issue with my start system for my Kia. I installed a cruise control kit from Kia which is really just a plug n play. I disconnected the battery and installed the cruise control without issues. Once I got everything back together however I couldn’t get the car to start. One singular click from the starter but no turning over. I checked the terminals to make sure they were tight and clean and found no difference. I have a 1000 amp jumper kit in my car and found if I used that it would jump fine. I should also note the battery has 790 cold cranking amps and I even got a new one. I found the original battery tests good on a voltage drop and no resistance to the immediate ground next to It. All fuses test and look good and I swapped the starter fuse with the spare next to it with no difference. I have a mind to replace the starter but its a weird time for it to have issues and it starts In about 2-3 turns with a jump and has no catch. I may remove the cruise control and see if thats somehow the issue. No error codes in the system either. Either way I’ll just keep jumping my car until the end of time unless someone knows some magic I could do. Thank yall!

Are you talking about the connections at the starter or the battery?

Battery terminals specifically. I haven’t jacked it up yet to look at the starter terminals. I can check.

I would remove the CC to see what happens, since all this started right after installing it…

Did the kit use a wire tap or piggyback off another fuse??

I reinstalled the old harness and the modules, still the same issue. And no the kit seemed pretty OEM since it was all just plug in. It just replaced the old module that didn’t have cc on it with the new one that did. Just seemed like Kia didn’t want to give the car the extra features without an extra penny. The cruise control and all of the buttons on it have worked fine and again no error codes since install. It doesn’t have an immobilizer either I believe

When the car won’t turnover when using the battery, but will turn over when the jumper cables are attached to the battery, I would still suspect the battery, unless your jumper connections are NOT to the battery or the battery connections. Exactly how did you test the battery and get a number for the CCA?

We have a digital tester here I’ve used before and it said it was fine. Although since I couldn’t think of anything else I took it to two autozones who both tested it without issue as the battery is only 6 months old. I also installed a new battery and nothing changed. I might sand down the terminals a little to see if that helps. I did Install new terminals when I originally got the battery and they’re about as tight as you can ask for.

Where do you connect the jumper cables? If like typical, and the minus goes to chassis, you may be bypassing the ground cable to the battery. If the battery to chassis ground cable is compromised, the jump will work but the battery won’t…

Might be interesting to connect your battery tester to the same points the jumper cables go…

Would you be able to post a pic of the battery and terminal ends??
