Can we Talk about How Underrated "Aston Martin" is?

Is it fair to say that “Aston Martin” is one of the most underrated car brands?

You have cars like the Aston Martin Rapide S", the amazing DB 11, or the classic DB5, every Aston Martin car can turn heads around and make people say “Wow”

I can’t name one lousy or ugly car made by the brand, yet I don’t see many people talking about it, nor do I see many on the roads. You see everyone talking about Porsche or Ferrari yet “Aston Martin” surprisingly seems to be perpetually ignored.

Why’s that? What are your thoughts on “Aston Martin” car brand and why the brand doesn’t remain in the limelight?

IMO, Aston-Martin’s production figures are so low that many people have never seen one on the road. I’m 77 years old, and I think that I’ve only seen three in my lifetime.

But, they are definitely unique and distinctive–as well as being fast. I recall reading many years ago, that each engine is hand-assembled by only one technician, and that whoever assembles that engine will engrave/etch his signature into the engine block at the end of the assembly process. Do they still do that?

How can a low volume brand like Aston Martin that normally has most of their vehicles sold before even made be called underated . In 2023 and 2024 the total made for those 2 years was just barely 12000 .

The VERY wealthy people who buy them don’t seem to think that A-M is under-rated.

Doesn’t James Bond drive them? What more do you want?

And, ironically, virtually any modern performance sedan outperforms Bond’s car. So much for “The Good Old Days”.

Car and Driver published an article in 2008, in which they pointed out that the VW Rabbit of that day would actually be faster than an Aston-Martin DB5, whose 0-60 time was 8.1 seconds–before the machine guns and other special equipment were added.

Currently, one of the cheapest econoboxes–the Hyundai Elantra–can do a 0-60 run in 7.9 seconds, and if someone opts for the Elantra “N” model, they can do that run in less than 5 seconds.

Please tell me again about the “superiority” of cars from the Good Old Days.

I got my hemmings yesterday. Each month I like to take a look at the Morris cars for sale. Usually there are a couple in the $20,000 range. My wife says if I want one buy one, and I say why would i do that? Who needs the hassle? This month there aren’t any so either found a couple suckers or masochists or gave up. I lumpnall the old English cars together for fairness or unfairness, but who needs the hassle? Now I’d rent one for the summer.
