all wheel drive seems to be engaged all the time causing one wheel to skip when turning.
That is the very definition of “All Wheel Drive”
I assume the skipping is slow speed, tight turns. That is generally somewhat normal. You might have the alignment checked. An out of alignment car can make the skips worse - and wear out tires more rapidly.
