By the dash board lights...02 Subaru Legacy

While the headlights are off -when I step on the brakes- the dash board lights dim, even the little light in the glove compartment.

All other lights in the cabin are fine and when I turn on the head lights everything is cool except the ABS light comes on. Seems to be messing with my odometer reading as well. HELP !!

Have your alternator/charging system and battery checked.

First clean the battery and cable connections with a battery post cleaning brush. Also clean the ground wire connection between the battery and the chassis.
