Burnt clutch

Hi i have a 2000 saab 9-5 5-speed and recently let my friend learn how to drive stick on it. When he was learning he sometimes had the motor rotating at 3k rpms and had the clutch about half way, he did this about three times (a net of probably 14 seconds) and soon i smelled the burnt clutch smell. It drove home fine, or so it seemed. I just got a new clutch 2 months before and want to know if i have another huge bill for another one coming soon. should i be concerned?

Thanks for the help!

The period of time that your clutch suffered abuse is very short.

Is this the end of driving lessons using your SAAB?

that’s good to hear, I really didn’t know how long they last because i got the car with a worn clutch. I plan on taking a few more friends but they are not as slow to react as he was, I’ve been able to teach two and they were naturals.

I’m glad to hear that this was relatively short abuse, that is comforting

Understand that using your car to teach friends puts you on a fast-track to another clutch replacement.

Who is paying for your clutch replacement(s)? Rocketman

You sure are rolling some expensive dice using your Saab for clutch driving lessons! How much does it cost to replace one, anyway? If they want to learn, they should supply the car.
