I have a 1996 Buick Regal with a 3.8 V6 that has 97,000 miles on it. It’s a great car, with only one sporadic problem. Four months ago I was running some errands and I had trouble starting the car after the 3rd stop. The car coughed and sputtered and wouldn’t start. I tried starting it several times with the same result. After waiting 20 minutes, the car started fine and ran great. This has occurred 3 times in the past 4 months. I have had the Map Sensor and EGR Valve replaced but it hasn’t fixed the problem. Any ideas??
If your auto mechanic is on your routes, make a point of stopping there every time you drive by, and if it does not start there they could quickly diagnose the problem. (let them know your situation beforehand) Also see if you can figure out a pattern, maybe it only happens on rainy days etc.
Thanks for the suggestion. I’m trying to re-create the problem today to see if I can get it to happen. Unfortunately, it seems to be verrry random.
