For the record, I’ve never taken this aspect too seriously. I simply drive home from the shop in normal fashion. It works for me.

Same here, I just drive normally with the new pads and/or rotors and they seem to feel fine.

Normal driving is the way to break in brake pads. In other words, it’s not really necessary to break them in, otherwise all new cars would come with an elaborate procedure to accomplish proper brake pad break in, and they don’t.
