We have a Volvo V70 (2001)and yesterday it started making a knocking noise while applying the brakes. It sounds like it is coming from the right rear side of the car. The noise is only audible when braking and the knocking slows in tempo as the car decelerates. It did sit in a long term parking lot for 8 days while we traveled to the UK to visit family and freeze in the wonderful English summer weather. By the way, we live in Cincinnati, so at least the car continued to enjoy the summer heat! Why the new knocking sound? PS - The engine light is NOT on.
It might be a little rust has formed on a brake rotor, that will quickly go away…of perhaps a bad wheel bearing…When you are braking, this loads the bearing and a bad one will complain as the load on it increases…Give it a couple of days…
