I had my brakes serviced at the dealer, and they found no problems - standard pads and shoes service. There was a squealing with the brakes and I called to ask if this was a problem. The service agent told me it may happen for 1,000 miles or so. After 3,000 miles, I called in again, and the response was that this may never go away due to the components of the brake. Sounds very strange, since they never squealed until right before it was service, and much more after. Should the brakes squeal from now on?
No, they shouldn’t. If installed properly, with the correct shims and anti-squeal compound, the new brake pads should make no more noise than the original pads.
