My daughter called and told me that her brakes are not coming back up after she has stopped. She had to take her hand and pull the brake pedal up. She has a 2000 Volvo S-40. What is the matter?
Master Cylinder.
Most likely the brake master cylinder has failed. DO NOT let anyone drive this car. Have it towed to a repair shop ASAP. Good Luck!
if the pedal isn’t coming back up, and you have to pull on it, it’s more likely to be the pedal return spring than the MC. Same advice applies as above, though - have it towed and do not drive it to the mechanic.
