Brakes repair

I drive a 96 Taurus. In Sept. 06 the mechanic “replaced rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders and drums and bled and adjusted brakes as necessary.”

A couple of days ago the brakes went and based on another mechanic’s recommendation I replaced the rear brake liners.

Should the first job have included the liners?

Confess to total ignorance and thanks for your help.

befuddled

Yes. Brake shoes have the liners on them.

Either there’s some term being misapplied in your description or one of these guys is a crook. It’s impossible to tell which one from the amount of info provided.
