Talk about speed diggerential, the NY Thruway has a 65 mph speed limit most p;aces with most traffic going just under 75. The speed limiy for school busses and long double trailers (Thruway Tandems) is 55.
California highways are similar, somehow they manage.
I live in California
Trucks do NOT drive 55 on the freeways
And if @ChrisTheTireWhisperer tried to drive below the speed in the right lane here, heād first get passed by a semi, as if he was standing still . . .
And then heād get SLAMMED by a tailgater
Heād be the CAUSE of traffic backing up
If you canāt keep up with traffic, get off the freeway
Something that irritates me, truck companies that govern their rigs to 68 MPH. Two trucks, one governor does 69 MPH, he passes a rig doing 68 MPH, mathematicians, how many miles does the faster truck have to go to pass the slower truck?
You havenāt driven with me, you donāt drive where I do, so
SYM!
You know what?
And I have a pretty good idea what SYM means . . .
Nothing personal.
You just happened to be my 547th refuter - online or in person - and I snapped.
Could have been anyone. Just sick n tired of having all of my experiences or suggestions refuted, is all.
I did not say trucks drive 55 on the highway. I said that the speed limit for Thruway Tandems on the NY Thruway is 55 or at least it was when I retired 28 years ag today. Thruway Tandems are pulling two 45ā trailers and the tractors that pull them have to be certified as up to tje job and display a TT number on them. The drivers have to be certified with a good driving record for the last 5 yeard and carry a permit. You also have to turn in a completed equiplist signed by you when you enter the toll booth. I do not know how they handle that now that they have eliminated that now that they eliminater the toll booths.
You were allowed to weigh 143,000 lb with a tandem axle dolly under the tail trailer.
Did I ever speed with a Thruway Tandem? The answer is, I was paid by the mile and my Mack was governed at 67-68 mph.
