I did some work on my equinox and had battery unhooked for 1-2 weeks. Done now and it runs/starts fine. Car was sitting for 6 months so battery condition is unknown. Been driving it for a week now. Always starts ok. Was trying a new code reader and noticed my battery light is illuminated on dash now. And voltage per dash is 14v. I cleaned batt terminals and light went off. But I notice voltage is 12.8 after start. And slowly rises to 13.2 than 13.5 and than around 13.8. Message center said service charging system but voltage was 14v? What does a slowly rising voltage indicate? If anything.
My cars start off charging (after a cold start, car sitting unused overnight ) about 14.5 volts, then it gradually decreases to 13.5-14.0 volts in about 15 minutes of idling. I think your battery is suspect, isn’t taking a charge like it should. What does it measure before the first start of the day? Anything less than 12.4 volts, my first suspect would be the battery. Note this doesn’t imply the battery is completely no good, might still be possible to rejuvenate it.
If you have a battery charger, how does the charging voltage change once you begin to charge it? On mine it has always started out around 15 volts, then lowered as the battery starts to take the charge properly.
I’ve been focused on temp issues due to headgasket repair and only check voltage in passing. I toggle thru display settings and voltage always seems to be 14v after 15 min off driving. When I use scan tool it says key on, motor off and I have been letting car sit as I go thru functions. I have tpms issue and airbag light too. I think pass seat sensor is bad. Damaged? Unplugged. I’ll check battery again.
Batt is 12.52 and when I turn on key dash says 11.2 with motor off
That is the reason the battery is taking longer to recharge; you are discharging the battery during diagnosis.
I have 2 equinoxes. 1 always seems to read 15v. I switched battery and alternator from #1 to #2. And the dash still says 15v and the “slow” equinox still is slow. Starts at 12.7 and slowly rises to 14. Might try to clean ground cables next
