Ask Someone: 2020 Dodge Durango #1752591438

The engine bogs down slightly when operating in higher RPM’s. No check engine light.

Welcome, your Ask Someone question has been redirect to Car Talk…

Sounds like a possible fuel delivery issue like a weak fuel pump, you need to put a fuel pressure gauge tool on it and watch the pressure while driving…
Also possible ignition timing can affect it, so might want to check Live Data, for timing and fuel trims and any thing like coolant temps being off etc etc…
Possible internal engine failing like weak or broken valve spring(s) can/will cause higher rpm low power…

But probably a fuel issue, that is where I would start…

What engine do you have and how many miles on the vehicle???

What are higher rpms? 4000 RPM’s? 5000 RPM’s?

There is limited torque while driving at higher speeds and lower RPM’s (2000), that is normal and more so during hot weather.

If you have the transmission in ECO mode then it will bog somewhat if it is in 8th gear at say 60 mph and you step on the gas . Try turning ECO mode off and see if the issue goes away . You can also try sport mode to see if it goes away also .

Wouldn’t that be the opposite of the OP’s issue with bogging at higher rpms??

8th gear with a what 0.67:1 over drive at 60 mph is probably around 1,500ish rpms, far from operating in what most would call higher rpms… (I’m not looking up the rear gear ratio and tire diameter to get a better engine rpm LOL)…
