Ask Someone: 2017 Chevrolet Sonic #1736454724

My car has been sitting for idk how long, I got it from a used car lot… so it probably needs oil change and spark plug switched out. Yesterday the check engine light came on but drives normal, not sure what that is?

Most Autopart’s stores will scan your cars computer for free and tell you what check engine light codes are coming up. you can copy the codes and post it back here and then someone here might be able to help you.

Please clarify, you first say it has been sitting presumably unused, next you say you drove it yesterday. When was it taken out of service and for what reason? Both oil and spark plugs are generally replaced on miles driven. How many miles since the last oil & filter change? Since the last spark plug change? Good idea above to obtain the diagnostic codes from the computer’s memory. There is usually at least one code stored when the check engine light turns on. The code is usually of this format : p****, e.g. p0401

You missed a big part of the post…

Most car lots change the engine oil and filter before they sell them, but might not be a bad idea to have it done so you can get it on a schedule and know it has the correct oil in it, and as mentioned the spark plugs are more mileage based…

But agreed, have the codes scanned and take note or take a picture of them and post back here… Most parts houses will scan for free, but that is NOT a diagnostic…
