Another car for you historians to identify

A friend had a golden retriever. Made the mistake of coming into our driveway which was cat settled territory. Jumped on the dogs back and rode it all th3 way out the driveway. Didn’t come back to visit again. I dunno, I think the cat overreacted a little. Never had any mice in the 16 years I was there.

Back to cars. I’ve got to drive into Minneapolis tomorrow for the auto show. Wish me luck.

Us, too. Our street urchin was just a kitten 2 years ago. All 3 were rescues including the 18 year old boy. The old boy used to ride in the car on bank runs with my wife.

Our cat was born in the pasture in a bramble my folks finally had cleared a couple years ago. He’d live inside for winter then visit ove a day in summer months. Going to the master bedroom window I’d he wanted in from the rain. Our dogs had a truce with him. More of an old couple who left each other alone. Except when the dog ate his food, so he returned the favor. Lived to br a fat and healthy 18+yr old. Fights with coyotes scarred one eye shut then both. Great hunter but we made him drop his catch before coming in

He’d survived one attack with a punctured lung and bent spine. Had to leave him in the vets care because it was the day before a trip and we heard nothing until we got back. Lung healed completely but they got him walking, balancing on fences was gone. Figure he cashed in 2-3 lives that time.

I’ve been wanting to do a tour of auti museum’s around the USA. Have to check out Deer Park along with the Peterson. Lane Museum with all.the oddball cars. Is on the list Just need to figure out logistics and timing.

I just found out about a museum in Maine. Suppose to be 50 classic cars.

The BEST car museum I’ve ever been to (admittingly I haven’t been to that many) is the Ford Museum. But it’s way more than just cars. Took us 2 days to go through the whole museum.

So do we. All three were rescues from shelters. When asked what kind they are - My response is “Small, Medium and Large.”

Best car show I’ve been to is Syracuse Nationals held at the NY State fair grounds in Syracuse NY (Actually Solvay - about 1 mile from Syracuse). I spend a good 10 hours there and didn’t see everything.

I want to see this someday, only about 150 miles south of me…

When I was growing up and we went to Las Vegas 2-3 times a year I saw the old Harrah’s Car Collection, before it was broken up and moved to several different places. I wish I could see that original collection now as an adult. I remember some really fine cars there. The current collection in Reno isn’t as great as the Las Vegas one was.

Back when I first moved east, my Realtor was friends with Paul Russell who has a vintage car restoration company in Essex, MA.

Check it out here: https://paulrussell.com/

I got a personal tour from Paul and he showed me all their gullwings (restored to Concours quality) and other vintage cars as well as their restoration shop. At the time, he had a fairly large storage area that had a significant portion of vintage collectables from Ralph Lauren’s private collection.

Several Revs Institute (the Naples, FL museum) cars were restored by Paul Russell. He does impeccable work.

For sure. They are auctioning 8 Yenko Camaros at the auction in Kissimmee, FL on January 17. All from the Cliff Ernst collection.

At some point (below that number IMHO) it becomes less collecting and more hoarding

I would call that bread and butter for Mecum or Barrett-Jackson. 60s muscle cars… some of the most valuable models but still 60s muscle cars that will likely sell for $300K to $600K

Mecum is selling a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO survivor… THAT is a step up! A $40 Million dollar step up!

As are a 1965 Mark I (289) Ford GT40, along with a 66 Mark II (427) GT40 Lightweight 1 of 3 produced maybe worth $5.5 Million and $8-10 Million respectively.

And a 1928 Bentley 4.5 liter Vanden Plas Tourer with the Rexine coachwork for about $1 Million or so.

And a 1959 Porsche RSK Center-steer car, one of 6 produced… This is part of the Rick Grant Collection and I believe this might be the 3rd time it has been on the auction block so expect $3 to $3.5 million if the right buyers are there.

Then there is a 1936 Delahaye 135 Competition Coupe worth about $3 Million.

They also have a number of late 1920s and 1930s classics… Stutz, Rolls Royce, Cadillac V12 and a Duesenberg Model J (likely worth only $1 Million.. Derham body…not so pretty). These are all cars not seen in great quantity at Mecum until now.

I was there when the $3.5M ‘cuda went across the block

But at the same auction I could have bought a 10 year old Jaguar for $5000.

Auctions(online or in person) are a huge gamble. One can end up paying way under or over something’s true value.

With my lot in life, I’d be in the latter camp!

I am currently watching 60s muscle cars sell on YouTube’s Mecum stream for between $20K and 70K. Way less that the cost to restore them. In a couple of cases, less than the cost to paint them!

Where would those auctions be without Corvettes, Camaros, Chevelles/Malibus, Mustangs, GTOs, and various Hemis?

There’s a gold 1969 Yenko Camaro that’s expected to fetch around $1 million. It was the only prototype pilot test car.

Here’s an article about them.

https://www.hagerty.com/media/market-trends/hagerty-insider/car-profiles-hagerty-insider/yenko-camaros-galore-at-mecum-kissimmee-and-one-may-set-a-record/

I saw that. It likely will hit $1M. But only $1M.

Same estate collection as the tension nova and the rainbow of Yenkio Camaro’s. Along with a Firebird And a couple Shelby mustangs. Sounded like an enthusiastic as much as a collector

I scanned it at the library, don’t know how to set parameters or if I can. I was going to throw out a bunch of old photos, decided to scan some of them first, thought you-all might enjoy this one. I scanned this one again today, got a bigger picture:

Is that any better?

Don’t make me no never-mind.
