I think a duplex is a duplex and not a rambler. To me a rambler is the one level one family home about 1000 sq ft. Not a split level, etc. but no big deal. The house looks more like a motel.
A friends brother had a chopped 51 or so ford. Not sure what is meant by sectioned, but was lowered, paint, interior, etc. He was in the army and parked in the garage. While away. Locked so we couldn’t get in. When he got home he traded for a 59 Chevy. Only saw it drive by once. Guess he grew up a little and wanted a regular car.
the car being sectioned to lower its overall height is probably a first generation Chevy Bel Air. They were built from 1950 to 1954… But this one is probably one of the early ones…
I would love to see the Amelia Island Concours, but that’s about as far away from the Seattle area as you can get. Were you there as a spectator, showcaser, or judge?
Just spectating. It is a pretty amazing event. Hagerty now organizes it. When I went it was Cars and Coffee on Saturday and the main event Sunday. Now the main event finishes the events on Saturday.
I would love to add the other book-end on the west coast, the Pebble Beach Concours, to my bucket list.
The better experience with breakfast and lunch buffets at Pebble will cost $1,200 per person for 2026. But if you’re only going once it’s worth it as a car enthusiast.
I think the closest I’ll get is a Mecum auction. Which I suppose is OK. It’s nice to be there and be able to walk around and see cars that I could actually afford and own or drive.
Mecum and Barrett-Jackson are like great big car shows. I have been to both several times. Fun to get a close look at the cars before and after the hammer falls.
Mecum is moving up in the type of car they auction…multi-million dollar cars. But they still auction the classic someone spent $100K to restore that sells for $25,000 because the car does not have a strong market. Thursdays for both Mecum and Barrett-Jackson are the days the lower priced stuff hits the block. Affordable cars that can be had for reasonable prices you can drive and not worry about your $20,000 paint job getting chipped.
It is fun, though, to wander at a Sothebys, Goodings or Broad Arrow auction to see 100 year old cars drive to the auction stand. Some of these cars will go at a bargain, too. Might be a $400,000 bargain, but still! And the auctioneers are as amusing as they show on tv.
You could stay near Watsonville, it’s less than 40 minutes from Monterey. Gilroy is another rural community about an hour from Monterey. San Jose is about 1.5 hours away but offeres a lot more hotel choices. A flight on Southwest will cost about $500 for a round trip in a standard seat to San Jose from Orlando.
If you’re flying to Southern CA, something else that shouldn’t be missed is the Deer Park Winery & Auto Museum. I had already seen the car museum located in San Diego’s Balboa Park, but the Deer Park Museum is much, much larger and more comprehensive. The San Diego museum has the distinction of housing one of the 5 Pierce Silver Arrows, and that was truly a wonder to behold, but the total collection in SD was dwarfed by the collection at Deer Park.
I recall having had a hard time finding this place, but that might be appropriate, given its location in the town of Escondido–which translates to “hidden”. (This was long before the days of GPS/Sat Nav) Even several locals who I asked for directions had no knowledge of this place.
Big dogs, little dogs, two at a time and no strollers. I’m a cat guy though and don’t know dogs. Mine evidently is resting comfortably on a farm somewhere in Iowa. What I was told anyway. The last straw was running for a mile at the sound of a shotgun blast. Why do you continue to ask this sill6 stuff?
Holy cow. You have a strange mind. Dogs like cocker spaniels. I gotta go to Menards now for more parts so I’m done here.
Reminded me though. I know spaniels because one night my dad brought home a cute one in a box. My mom took one look and said the dog goes or I go. The next morning the dog was gone. I think she was serious. I could always tell when she started t swear saying Garsh darn it get home.
