Only if it has a pressurized oil system. My 15hp walk behind mower with a Kawasaki engine has an oil filter. My 8hp Ariens snowblower doesn’t.

I will bet your Ariens still has a pressurized oil system even without a filter

I have torn 5 hp Briggs and Tecumsah (sp?) filterless lawn mower engines apart and found each have oil pumps and pressurized systems. Piston pumps that are run off the crank.

I know Tecumseh has a strange pump contraption that doesn’t use any check valves to lubricate the upper crank bearing.

I saw an ad for tecumseh of maybe 20 years ago and talked sbout a pressurized lube system. I’ve had a couple apart but never knew what I was looking at I guess. I always liked them on blowers. In fact I have the kids in storage. Hardly used. Might be shot now after about ten years.
