I don’t consider evap leaks to be a safety issue. All cars and trucks ran fine for many decades with vented gas caps.
Well, I personally wouldn’t get my underwear in a bunch over an EVAP leak BUT the risk comparison to legacy systems isn’t quite appropriate. Where are gas caps located compared to hoses and reservoirs (meant to store volumes of the volatile gases) in a modern EVAP system?
