Show 1038 about two weeks ago had a caller with probles with a '95 Nissan Altima distributor (the car would stall). I had the same car and the same problem. The issue is the oil o-ring that goes in the linkage between the camshaft and the distributor. When the o-ring is worn, the optical encoder inside the distributor gets oil and malfunction. The o-ring is $5 at the dealer, the optical encoder can be cleaned with electrical connector cleaner. Since I changed the o-ring the car has been fine for 50k after.
