Sometime in the next few years I’ll probably have to buy a new vehicle. I love my 2014 Highlander, and I was considering buying another one in the next few years. However, it seems that starting in 2027 Toyota will only offer the Highlander as an EV. As EV’s stand right now they don’t meet my criteria. 320mile range is OK, but the 30+ minute charge time. I’d much prefer their Highlander Hybrid with a 500–600-mile range and just a few minutes to fill the tank. Toyota probably will lose more than one customer besides for their next SUV purchase.
Subaru gets their own version, Grand Highlander sticks around for hybrid buyers and has more demand.
I’m surprised that they aren’t planning to offer a PHEV version. I really like mine, and it will probably be the last vehicle that I ever own.
In my usual driving patterns, I am able to do ~90% of my driving solely on battery power, and because I am a member of a community solar program, I get a 21% discount on my electrical usage. When I opt for longer drives, then I go into HV mode, at which point it operates like a “regular” hybrid.
Obviously, my gas mileage varies, depending on how often/how far I operate in HV mode, but my typical gas consumption is 6-7 gallons every 2-3 months, with odometer readings of 700-1,400 miles.
Eh, I’ll tell my mom to keep her 2022 a bit longer.
Nope. Grand Highlander is also going EV only in 2027
I’m still a big fan on Honda’s. And Honda plans on offering hybrid versions of the Pilot and Passport in 2027 - maybe 2028.
