Airbag recall, stuck between a rock and a hard place ;(

So yes I use a dealer for maintenance, competitive pricing with local shops. New battery needed, Local shop said take it to the dealer as we would have to to get the battery reprogrammed for auto-start on 2017 Acadia limited.

So I had an oil change in spring, recall for air bag. On vacation for 4 weeks, call to make an appointment as 5 weeks ago they notified me they had the part. Last week, sorry air bag part is not acceptable, waiting for GMC fix. When that might happen? No idea. Can you disconnect the airbag in the meantime? No legally we cannot. So what is the greater risk, no airbag in collision or getting killed by shrapnel if it deploys?

No airbag is better than shrapnel if you wear your seatbelts, IMHO.

Pull the SRS fuse out.

Wait, I missing something.

Do you still have the vehicle in your garage at home, or does the dealer have the vehicle?

If you still have the car…just drive it and worry about something else. The airbag parts will be fine. The chances of you being in an accident are relatively low.

That’s a tough one. hmmm … any chance you could just park it up and drive another car in the meantime? That seems the safer alternative. Or sell it and buy another car.

Not in the buy or sell market, thanks for the thought.
