Air bag service light

My air bag service light just came on. I have a Chevy Silverado 2005 with 195,000 miles. Any clues?

If the airbag light is on you can assume the airbags are no longer functioning.

Buckle up!

You’re probably going to need dealer help with this.

Good luck.

Something in your airbag system is not working properly.

Common faults on these trucks are crash sensors and clockspring assemblies.

You’ll need to get the system scanned for codes and diagnosed to determine the issue. Any competent local garage can help you with this.

There is a computer/controller that stores airbag codes that can help diagnose the problem. This is not the same system that stores driving codes, so you need to find a shop that agrees to do airbag servicing. Not everyone is willing. Check first with your Chevrolet dealership.
