lately when i turn off the ac or put it on just fan, a cloudy type of smoke comes out. it doesnt smell burning or anything, but its just cloudy…at first i thought it was just condensation, but now it does it often enough even when its not that humid or anything…its clear when i turn on the ac though…
i’m wondering if it’s some of the ac liquid coming out…perhaps theres a leak in the condenser or something as it seems to be making a noise…
thanks for the input
Does this “cloud” have something of a sweet smell to it? If so, you’ve got a coolant leak in either the A/C evaporator or maybe the heater core. Engine coolant (from the heater core) is usually sweet smelling – I’m not sure about the stuff on the A/C side. Either way, the stuff is toxic and is killing your brain cells, so get it fixed.
is there a way to find out where the leak could be?
it only happens after i shut off the ac…could that tell me the possible location? in regards to the smell, i do not think it is sweet, but i’m not sure…
When the car is cool remove the cap from the overflow tank or radiator and take a little sniff. If you are not smelling that in the car, then you need to see the A/C shop for the fix.
If that is the odor you are smelling inside the car, then you will need to open up the heater core area and find the leak, most likely in the heater core. If you don’t plan on a DIY I would chose a radiator shop for this one.
the smell is musty, but then again i cant remember…but it does have a smell so i’m assuming thats it…
should i be able to see a leak?
also it also comes out when the i shut off the fan, but the vent is still open. when i close the vent, it doesnt come out anymore…or it does not come out when the ac is on…
thanks…
