abs light comes on and activates randomly without appling brakes what would cause this? 2006 ford freestar
The ABS light will turn during the self test process. If the light does not go out or comes ‘on’ later, that indicates that the ABS computer has found a problem with the system. The ABS will be inactivated as long as the light is ‘on’.
Most of the time the ABS computer can be scanned for fault codes which will aim the mechanic toward the section of the system that is not operating correctly. One damage prone area of the system is the sensors and their wiring out at each wheel that tells the computer what the wheel speed is. So, make sure there is no obvious damage at these tone rings, magnetic sensors, and the wiring and plugs to the sensors.
