A slow start

MY WIFE DRIVES A 1960 TOYOTA CELICA IN TOP CONDITION WITH ONLY 60000 MILES ON IT.

ONLY PROBLEM IS DIFFICULTY STARTING AFTER SITTING FOR A WEEK,ESPECIALY ON COLD DAYS.SOME TIMES REQUIRES 12 OR MORE CRANKS.

AFTER STARTING GOOD FOR THE DAY.

What year? 1960???

Sorry about that- Toyota is a 1980 !

What engine? If it is the 20R or 22R, you may need a carb rebuild. I had a 22R in a 1990 Pick-up, and, after sitting a couple of days, I noticed it was hard to start. After some investigation, I found the gasoline in the carb bowl would evaporate or trickle out, and be empty. You have to crank the engine long enough for the mechanical fuel pump to to pump enough gas into the carb.

The carb should have a sight-glass in the front under the air cleaner. The gas level is suppose to be between the two ‘points’ in the middle of the glass. If it is not, there’s the problem.
