Roads in Tokyo are ridiculously crowded even though the trains are packed. I don’t think the megalopolis could exist without trains.
Boston has a decent public system if you are only going into the city in the morning and out in the evening. Not very good if you want to go from Lawrence MA to Lowell MA. It could take you 3 hours to travel the 15 miles. When I have meetings in Boston I usually take the train out of Methuen. It’s more convenient and don’t have to deal with the traffic headaches…but it’s also more expensive. If I had to do that commute every day I’d be paying an EXTRA $40/week compared to driving in and paying for parking. Some businesses offer free parking so it’s even more of an incentive to drive yourself.
Well if we are going off topic, lets have a little fun doing it.
Thanks. In my sheltered Midwest existence, I never knew what that song was about. We only had Rock Island for trains.
People unfamiliar with the Kingston Trio never understood why the MBTA card system is called the “Charlie Card”.
Yeah I’ve learned to always have some cash in my pocket in case I need to take a cab or get off the train. That’s the lesson right? To always carry cash?
Always loved the song. I can understand why Bostonians were the only ones that appreciated it.
