A lot af factory workers do the job just for the money. Especially on an assembly line, the work is repetitive and boring. They often have hobbies to use their minds.

Agree! I knew of a number of assembly workers with not only college degrees but advanced degrees. Especially true of emplyees working at plants in low cost of living states. The UAW AND IUE negotiated wage agreements based on Michigan cost of living. Ohio, Georgia and other states provided higher standard of living on the same wage than jobs using the degrees of the workers.

Many folks had side-gigs as well because it was an interest.
