Some of my favorite riding/handling vehicles I’ve had over the years have been '69 Olds 98, '65 New Yorker, '08 Town Car. Not quite the same as what you’re looking for?
I have driven all three Ford Panther Division cars
88 Lincoln Town Car, 93 Ford Crown Victoria LX and now the 99 Mercury Grand Marquis LS.
Big comfortable highway cruisers. Sit back and enjoy the ride.
I would say the panther is the best?
The best of what ? Being an old discontinued vehicle ?
Instead of a Panther, why not a tiger? A Sunbeam Tiger.
Sunbeam Tiger - another one of those designs that still look just right .
I think the Checkers had the right idea for easily repaired vehicles. The Checkers has bolt on front and rear fenders and any fender could be replaced in about 30 minutes. The front and rear bumpers were interchangeable and could be replaced quickly. These vehicles were designed for taxicab service, but some were sold without lights on the roof and the “hale me” paint job" for family service.
The Checker was a good car for taxi service, but i (and many other people) wouldnt be seen in one as a personal car.
@old_mopar_guy I’m weird, so it wouldn’t bother me at all to be seen in a Checker. Back in the early 1960s, the chairman of the mathematics department in the school I attended drove a Checker. At.the graduate school I attended, there were a couple of Checkers in the fleet. Apparently, some of the staff didn’t like driving the Checkers. One had been traded in at the local Ford dealership. Had I had the momey, I might have bought it. However, a later model Checker with the Chevrolet engine would have been a better pirchase. The Checker I looked at had the Continental Red Seal engine-- a fine engine, but parts availability may have been a problem.
You can still get parts for those old Contnental flathead engines today.
