A/C for Nissan Xterra

Son at West Point bought a 2006 Nissa Xterra. When visiting him last week (it was really hot/humid), his A/C only worked when the blower was at the lowest setting. There is some cooling, appropriate for a low setting. If the blower was turned up higher, the A/C light would go out. Any ideas? Electrical with blower control? Or maybe related to cooling load on the A/C. Or freon in the A/C?

This seems electrical to me…you can have a shop check the refrigerant charge, but that would normally affect A/C operation regardless of fan speed. Perhaps there’s a crossed wire or two behind the control panel.
