Make Sure The Transmission Fluid Is “Full,” Checking/Adding According To The Owner’s Manual. See That The Fluid Is Pink/Red And Does Not Smell Burned.
Some of these Saturns (94 - 2001) develop broken wires near the transaxle connector due to flexing caused by normal powertrain vibration. The wires supply electricity to shift solenoids and TC solenoid. Sometimes the wires’ insulation will look distorted at the point of an open circuit if there is a problem there.
“Check Engine Light” on ?
Some DTCs (codes) could be set that will give clues (PO740, PO746, PO756, PO732, PO733, PO761, PO766, PO734, PO789). Many auto parts stores will read them for free in the parking lot. Give them a call and see. Post any/all codes here.
The “Check Engine Light” may or may not be on depending on what DTC(s) is/are set.
