About a month or two ago my car (which is parked outside) started to smell funny, like mice urine or maybe a dead animal. I took the car to a shop and they cleaned out the ventilation and sure enough there was a mouse nest inside. about week ago i turned on the heat after not driving the car for a week and it sounded like there was dirt in t5he ventilation, and now it smells like urine again. I was wondering if there was an easy way for me to clean it out myself and once cleaned out, if there is a way to prevent to from happening again.
I don’t know how the Maxima’s vent system is configured, it may be a tough job to disassemble it. Take a look at it and see if you can easily remove whatever component will allow you ino the vent innards. I would see if there is ayway to but screening over the openings into the ventilation system. As to keeping them out, make certain no kind of food mice like is near the car. Things mice don’t like, you won’t either (such as moth balls or those products to keep rabbits, cats, dogs, deer etc.) out of gardens. Best bet is to seal off the openings with screening. I have a problem with chipmunks getting into my air cleaner box through the intake horn, they deposit nuts and chew up the paper air cleaner inserts to make nests. I can’t screen it off (due to the air flow sensor), so during the winter season, I inspect the air cleaner on a regular basis. If your ventilation system proves to be easy to get to, you might have to do the same.
