91 Acura won't start

I have a '91 Acura Legend with 208,000 miles on it. I am having trouble starting the car. It turns over but doesn’t start.

AAA came, they took a hammer and banged the underside of the gas tank and it started. I have done the same thing twice. My mechanic wants $830.00 to fix it, taking off the gas tanks etc. Is there another cheaper way?

Thank you, Eric

That’s the sign of a fuel pump that’s failing. However, to replace the fuel pump in your vehicle doesn’t require the removal of the gas tank. Access to the fuel pump is gained by removing the rear seat and removing the fuel pump access cover. So it should only cost about half the price you were quoted from your mechanic.
