88 Ford Bronco II Starter Problem

We have had to replace the flywheel and starter on this vehicle now 4 times in the last 5 months. What in the world could be wrong with what to cause that?

You might give some insight into the problem.

Ok, well now my husband says that we actually have replaced the starter 5 times, but the last time we did replace the flywheel & starter together. It started fine for 3 months and then made chunky sounds and went out again. Push starting it while we try to figure out what the problem could be that makes the starter take teeth out of the flywheel or visa versa…

Repeatedly breaking gears would indicate that the timing is too high.

oh, I was not aware of that and don’t think that occured to my “shade tree” man. Thanks for the info, we will check that out right away.
