Does the 2024 Acura RDX require premium fuel or is this only recommended ?
Check your owner’s manual. It should say there, one way or the other.
According to Acura, premium gas is required for the Acura NSX
and it’s recommended for the MDX, RDX, TLX, RLX, and ILX.
While your luxury vehicle can run on lower-octane, or regular, gas, you won’t be able to experience its full performance potential without premium gas.
All generations of the Acura RDX manufactured since 2006 take premium unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 91. Regular gasoline with an octane of 87 or higher may be used temporarily but will cause decreased performance. Using fuel with an octane lower than 87 is strictly forbidden and will result in engine damage.
Using anything less then the recommended premium fuel will retard the ignition timing causing reduced power and performance, retarding ignition timing can cause a loss of power or acceleration, decreased fuel economy, an overheating engine or rough idle depending on how much…
You will get better fuel economy running what the manufacture recommends…
Did you purchase the RDX? If just shopping, there are many other vehicles out there in the $50,000 price range that will run on lower octane fuel.
Too bad they don’t have something like a vehicle manual that would tell people what kind of fuel to use . Or maybe a online site you could use to find out , They could call it Google or something.
That’s true, but more than likely the necessary fuel octane is printed on the vehicle’s gas cap. None of this should be a mystery to a car owner, and–in fact–it isn’t… if someone simply opens his/her Owner’s Manual or takes a look at the gas cap.
This RDX has a high-output 2.0 L turbo 4, producing 272 hp. I’d use premium on every tank.
I’ve used mid grade on my rdx since new with no problems. I never use regular. The premium at the Mobil station is non oxy reserved for boats, and off road vehicles, so I only use that for small engines.
Whereas in Florida, the premium 93 octane is up to 10% ethanol, non-ethanol comes in at 89-90 octane.
Yet another tale of someone buying a “premium” vehicle, and then balking at having to use premium expensive fuel. Sigh.
Thanks Bing … just got Costco gas and only 2 choices: reg unleaded or premium. Since first fillup went with premium. My Mobil nearby does have a mid grade choice, so I’m thinking of using a mixture of premium & mid grade. Thoughts ?
If premium is recommended than regular 87 unleaded is fine especially if the price difference is a lot. The performance difference is not something that people who buy this vehicle care about. In other words do what ever lets you sleep at night.
V6 or turbo 4?
I think it all depends where you are. Here in NC I can get non-ethanol in 87, 90 and 93. The 93 often is at marinas.
Why would you do that instead of just filling with premium? What could be gained by mixing?
I guess he is going to get premium then the next time Regular . At 15 gallons each time he saves about 5.00 every other time. Which why one wonders why buy a 50000.00 vehicle to start with if 5.00 is that important.
Now if he plans to get half premium and half regular at the same time he is really going to irritate the people behind him.
Or maybe “save” a few dollars on gasoline…only to damage a knock sensor or some other expensive part on down the road.
Sure, makes sense.
The knock sensor is in use and tested each time the vehicle is driven. I don’t believe a knock sensor can be “worn out”.
