2021 Ford F-150 HYBRID

If I open the driver side door on my F-150 while the motor is running the transmission locks in gear and will not let me put it onto park which would allow me to crank it. I can disconnect the battery cables and it will eventually put itself into park and I can crank it. This has been going on for several months. When it first started it would reset in 30 mins or so but now is taking overnight. I’ve not tried it to see if this happens with any other doors bc I don’t want to intentionally make it happen. HELP and thank you.

Have you checked to see if there is a recall in effect for your vehicle?

I’m going to say it is a safety feature (without digging into it)..

What happens if you put it park before opening the door, I guess nothing, so what happens if you open the door in park and then try to put it in gear??

Hybrids are a whole different animal then basic old ICE vehicles…

The truck has a safety feature that locks the transmission in park if the door is opened with the engine running.

It would appear there’s a problem with the programing for this feature.

Time to contact the dealer.

I think Tester just nailed it…

My question is, why do you keep needing/requiring the drivers door to be open with the engine running while still in gear?? I am being serious, not trying to be a smart ■■■…

To add on, if the engine is running, why do you need to crank it? I am ignorant on how the F150 Hybrid operates, doesn’t the truck’s computer system determine when it is necessary to start the gas engine?
