2019 Buick Encore: "Service All Wheel Drive System" message, replacing battery

  1. Recently, the “Service All Wheel Drive System” has been coming on at startup. I can dismiss it, and it doesn’t come on while driving. There are no apparent symptoms. Car has 42,000 miles on it. Anyone have any advice?
  2. One supposed cause of this message is a failing battery, which I suppose is possible. The battery is the original. What I am not seeing on the Interwebs is whether a memory saver is neccesary when changing the battery. Nothing in the owner’s manual on the subject, of course. Any advice on this?

Could definitely be related to a 6 year old battery on the way out. What voltage does it have before the first start of the day? If less than 12.5 volts, probably time to schedule a replacement battery. Also is there a specified service interval near to 42k? If so, does it mention inspection and servicing the drive axles?

Any recent tire changes? Any stored diagnostic codes?

No Buick AWD experience, just a knucklehead diy’ers opinion is all.

You always use a memory saver when replacing a battery on a modern vehicle.

Six+ year old battery, though some like to see how many years they can get before requiring a jump, I replace mine within four years. If the installer does not know if a memory minder is necessary, find a different shop, or do you plan to do it in your driveway? In that case get a memory minder.

Your service reminder can be reset by pushing numerous buttons or you can have a dealer do it after servicing or without servicing. Anyplace can reset it.

There is no actual regular service for this.
