- Recently, the “Service All Wheel Drive System” has been coming on at startup. I can dismiss it, and it doesn’t come on while driving. There are no apparent symptoms. Car has 42,000 miles on it. Anyone have any advice?
- One supposed cause of this message is a failing battery, which I suppose is possible. The battery is the original. What I am not seeing on the Interwebs is whether a memory saver is neccesary when changing the battery. Nothing in the owner’s manual on the subject, of course. Any advice on this?
Could definitely be related to a 6 year old battery on the way out. What voltage does it have before the first start of the day? If less than 12.5 volts, probably time to schedule a replacement battery. Also is there a specified service interval near to 42k? If so, does it mention inspection and servicing the drive axles?
Any recent tire changes? Any stored diagnostic codes?
No Buick AWD experience, just a knucklehead diy’ers opinion is all.
You always use a memory saver when replacing a battery on a modern vehicle.

Six+ year old battery, though some like to see how many years they can get before requiring a jump, I replace mine within four years. If the installer does not know if a memory minder is necessary, find a different shop, or do you plan to do it in your driveway? In that case get a memory minder.
Your service reminder can be reset by pushing numerous buttons or you can have a dealer do it after servicing or without servicing. Anyplace can reset it.
There is no actual regular service for this.
